Interviews
- spotslights :
the Russian pair Yulia
Lopatkina and Anna Mokhova
Are you happy with your performance?
Yes, of
course. We came here to perform well,
just like in practice, and that's what
we did. We are very happy...
Interview with the Portuguese
men's group - David Batista
(top) (17 years old), Ricardo Figueirinha
(24 years old), Joao Godinho (22 years
old) and Bruno Oliveira (24 years old)
Do you all come
from a strict Acrobatic Gymnastics background?
David: I
did a bit of trampoline and then I had
the idea of doing acrosport. I started
when I was 12 years old and I've been
practicing the sport for 5 years now...
Interview with the Chinese men's
pair - Shengchao XI - Top
(16 years old)
Chengang JI - Base (21 years old)
For how long
have you been training together?
For four
years, in the city of Nankin (in the
Jiang Su province); two sessions every
day from Monday to Saturday.
..
Jennifer
Da Silva, Daniele Heidler, and Samantha
Schabov (the American women's trio)
Is this your first World Championships?
As seniors, yes. We've been training together
for one-and-a-half years, but two of us
did juniors for four years...
Yulia
Kravchenko and Irina Lobodzinska
Ukrainian women's pair
For how long have
you been training together? Three
years now...
Christine
Leach and Elizabeth Oliver
British women's pair
Although you finished with the same
score as the Ukrainian pair, the rules
broke the tie for third place by giving
the advantage to the Ukrainians, who had
a higher level of difficulty. What are
your thoughts on this?
Actually,
we didn't know what they were going to
do. Sometimes they go one way, sometimes
another, so we never know who's going
to happen. It's really frustrating, though..
Mixed Pair,
Tiffany Cuyt and Yves Van der Donckt
(BEL)
You are within striking
distance of a medal right now. Is winning
a medal your goal in this competition?
Yes, of
course, I think that for any gymnast the
goal is to win a medal. But first, we
have to get to finals. We've been working
very hard together for eight months, and
we came here to show what we can do...
An imperial Men's
Group
For how long have you been training together?
For five months. This is our first time
competing together as a group at this
level. In Asia, there are a number of
friendly competitions that give us the
opportunity to see what gymnasts in countries
like Korea are doing. But we also manage
to learn about what's going on in the
sport with the help of other Chinese teams
who bring back information from outside
the country...
Sheena
Booth and Arthur Davis (USA), world champions
2002
What has changed
in your program since 2002?
Arthur: We've added a lot more difficulty.
Way more. We've been together longer so
we just concentrate on getting more technically
perfect. We've also been working on our
presentation and on enjoying ourselves

Mattei
TODOROV - Head of the British delegation
(20/05/2004)
Why is acrobatic gymnastics so
well-developped in Anglo-Saxon countries
and in Great Britain in particular?
Well, I'd say that part of the reason
for our success is that acrobatic gymnastics
is not an individual sport, it's a team
event. The other thing is that Great Britain
started in the sport earlier and imported
a great deal of knowledge from the Eastern
Bloc. Back in 1973, we were at the Volkov
Cup in Russia...more...
South
Africa : First place ! - Female pair /
11 - 16 year olds
Owing to a beautiful presentation and
to an error by the British gymnasts, you
won the gold medal. Were you expecting
to win the title?
Oh, no ! We weren't expecting it at all,
but we are of course very happy. We didn't
even think it was possible to win the
gold. The competition was very strong,
especially from the English who were in
first after the qualifiers. more...
Russia : first place - Men's pair
11 - 16 year olds
Are you satisfied with your performance
?
We are very happy
with our performance. We were a little
bit nervous before starting, but once
on the floor, we let go of all the stress
and focused on what we had to do, and
we did our best. more...
National
Russian Coach
How has Russia managed to develop acrobatic
gymnastics as an integral part of the
federation ?
You know, acrobatics is a ârt of
Russian culture. This sport has been around
for 55 years already in Russia. Acrobatic
gymnastics is very well-developed in our
country. From the north to the south,
and from the west to the east, acrobatic
gymnastics is praticed in a number of
cities. We have about 80 000 registered
members, which accounts for almost 30
percent of all registered members in the
Russian Gymnastics Federation. Acrobatic
gymnastics is among the most-practiced
of the non-Olympic sports where the results
are the best. more...
Men's
Group GBR-2
How do you feel about your performance?
We're not
satisfied with our performance - we're
pretty unhappy with how we did. It was
certainly our goal to beat the Russians,
but next time. More...
